On this Gap Year we have learned to go with the flow. Because of our car problems we will now be celebrating New Year with Rodger Collins and his friends on his barge Silhouette in Chalon, not as planned in Portsmouth with Neil & Bernie. Now that we are in Chalon for three months we have had a great social life and the local people have made us feel welcome. Continue reading

Ice on C est la Vie – 4 degrees

Update on the broken car. First, we have had to cancel our planned visit to England to celebrate the New Year. On top of this, last night was the coldest we have seen (-4 degrees) and there was ice on the inside of the boat windows this morning! Continue reading

Recently we realised we were less than an hour away from Taizé and Paray-le- Monial. These are two great centre of prayer which many Irish people travel from Ireland to visit. So we decided we should also visit them. Continue reading

Suddenly Christmas seems to be upon us. So far it’s been a very different Christmas for us this year. In the past we would have been very busy at work in the run up to Christmas but this year there is no pressure and suddenly it’s Christmas. Continue reading

Yesterday we went to visit Hospices du Beaune, a free hospital for the poor of Burgundy founded in 1443 by Nicolas Rolin. We ourselves are supporters of Saint Vincent de Paul, a charitable organisation also founded in France by Fredric Ozanam in 1833. This shows that people have helped others throughout the centuries. First Peugeot – note cart and horse shafts in background

This week we drove to see the Peugeot Museum in Sochaux. It was a very different type of museum than the Volkswagen Museum in Wolfsburg, Germany.

This museum is devoted to the Peugeot automobile business. The museum was founded in 1988 next to the Company’s huge industrial site at Sochaux, high up in the hills, quite close to the Swiss border. Continue reading
