Silhouette, Roger’s barge was in the shipyard in St Jean de Losne. As the repairs were completed, he asked us could we bring him and Elham to St Jean so they could bring the boat back to Chalon.  We used the trip to St Jean de Losne as an opportunity to visit the ancient Roman city of Autun. When Marc was here we made a return visit to Dijon, 70km and one hour away from Chalon. Cote d’Or and its capital Dijon, was home to the Dukes of Burgundy from the early 11th until the late 15th century.

Dijon was a place of tremendous wealth and power and one of the great European centres of art, learning, and science. Of course, it is also famous for its mustard. Continue reading

Living on a boat for the winter in the middle of France had us worried at the start, but it’s turned out to be a very mild winter here in Chalon Sur Saone. At home in Ireland this week it has snowed along the west coast – a rare event. What is happening to our weather? Continue reading

We have only five weeks left on the boat before we return home for good.  We have had a great adventure and year off. The year has flown and now it’s back to reality so I spent this week polishing up my C.V. and starting to look for a job.

I know all of you at home working away every day are saying “Pity about them”! Adrian and Nuala have had a great year, while we have been slaving away here. Continue reading

I was worried- someone from Korea was looking at the blog!

I know our blog is well read. We now have up to 3,500 views per month – but why are Koreans looking at it? Are we about to get a cyber-attack like Sony? Continue reading

Yesterday we decided to explore the North Bank of the Saone by bicycle. We went eastwards as from the map we could see that there was an old port and the junction where the Canal du Centre meets the Saone River. Continue reading
