What a difference a year and eight days make!

Saint Jean de Losne, a small town on the Saone River, won’t mean a lot to you, but it is significant for Nuala and I. We moored in St Jean on Monday night, a year and eight days since we were last here. Continue reading

Two days to our winter destination in Chalon sur Saone- another coincidence

We are now cruising down the Saone and nearly at the end of our boat travels for this year. This journey has been both a great adventure and a time of personal awareness. We keep having good coincidences, as if we are being somehow nudged, in a certain direction. Continue reading

A catch up blog- We have lost track of each other.

Over the last few weeks we have changed our plans and moved the boat quite a long way and I realise you might have lost track of us and not know where we are or what we are doing. Continue reading

The luck of the Irish- How a key ring saved our plans to get to winter mooring in Chalon sur Saone.

Yesterday when we arrived at the Liverdun lock (on the Moselle) at 8.30, we found a large 110 metre barge sitting waiting to go through. It turned out he was very important to us. Continue reading

We are now on the Moselle River having left the Rhine at Koblenz. What a difference! No more 7km current against us and endless barges. Instead we have a tranquil river, very pretty villages and lots of tourists. But you meet people in the strangest places. Continue reading

How much Diesel do we have? Will we run out of fuel?

The boat is very economical and has used a lot less fuel than I thought throughout the Gap Year. However I did get fed up of doing countless calculations and worrying if we would run out of fuel or not as the boat fuel gauge is not accurate. So I came up with a solution before we got onto the Rhine. Continue reading

Henrichenburg Boat Lift and Buying a Carpet for the Boat

Nuala said we have a schedule to keep but as I would love to see them we should stop. It was to have interesting consequences. Continue reading

Munster Again ! – Because Nuala says best charity shop in Germany is here

We spend the last two days in Munster. It’s great because you can moor in the old harbour close to the centre of town. We stopped again on the return trip because Nuala wanted to revisit the charity shop! Also it was a good place to celebrate my birthday. Continue reading
